Boycotts
Since the main goal of an oligarchy is to protect its wealth, weakening that wealth is the most powerful form of resistance. Boycotts weaken revenue.
Boycotts, however, take time and require the participation of many. But when the commitment is there, they work. The Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott lasted just over a year, but it achieved its goal. The Supreme Court decision, Gayle v. Browder (1956), ruled against segregated bus systems.
- Boycott TESLA. Do not buy anything from TESLA. If you own a TESLA, trade it in.
- Boycott X (formerly Twitter). Use BlueSky instead.
- Boycott META. This is a tough one given that it involves both Facebook and Instagram. Many of us depend on this social media tool and have years of interactions saved in it. But to strike at META, you need to strike at its ad revenue. When you see an ad that interests you, don’t click on it. Search online for the merchandise and go directly to the vendor.
- Boycott AMAZON. To the point that it is possible, boycott Amazon. Millions of people have Amazon fully integrated into their lives, but we can buy LESS from Amazon. Below are some suggestions.
- BOOKS–Where possible, buy hardcover and paperback books from sites like PangoBooks. Better yet–use your public library to get books and audiobooks for FREE. Libby is a great app for library ebook and audiobooks.
- CRAFT SUPPLIES–Check Etsy, and endless source craft supplies, first.
- TECH Hardware–When Wirecutter recommends a place to buy these items, go to the non-Amazon company if one is listed.
